Volunteer Program
Due to the sheer size of our facility and herd, we rely heavily on volunteers to ensure that our equine team is cared for and supported & our operations run smoothly. We all work together to support our herd so they can support us. Whether that's mucking pens, side-walking for sessions, or maintaining the grounds, volunteer work helps to ensure our space reflects an environment where everyone can feel welcome and cared for.
We require all volunteers within the program over 18 years old be fingerprinted, and we can assist with the process. Volunteering options include:
-
The Ranch Volunteer Program at Wild Souls Ranch involves helping with daily ranch operations such as mucking and weeding. Volunteers may also assist with larger projects like fence building, property improvements, and other hands-on tasks that help maintain and grow the ranch.
Ranch volunteers are needed at our Fortuna and our new Arcata location. Can’t commit to weekly shifts? Wild Souls Ranch has volunteer mornings once a month at both our Fortuna and Arcata locations on some weekday mornings. Reach out in the form below to learn more and see the schedule. -
Please note- equine, child development, or previous volunteer experience at Wild Souls Ranch is required for this position.
Side Walker Volunteers at Wild Souls Ranch play a vital role in supporting riders from Redwood Coast Regional Center during adaptive riding lessons. Volunteers walk alongside the horse to provide stability and encouragement, while also assisting participants on and off the horse throughout the session. Because each rider’s needs and interests are unique, volunteers are expected to be flexible and ready to adapt- whether supporting a riding lesson, helping a participant explore the ranch, interact with animals like goats or ducks, or engage in activities such as gardening. A calm, patient, and adaptable approach is essential to meeting participants where they are and creating a positive, confidence-building experience.
Side walking volunteers must begin as Ranch Volunteers to learn the flow of the ranch and shadow our Equine Specialists. -
We occasionally run special events, like fundraisers and community open houses, that we would love assistance with.
