Volunteer Program

Due to the sheer size of our facility and herd, we rely heavily on volunteers to ensure that our equine team is cared for and supported & our operations run smoothly. We all work together to support our herd so they can support us. Whether that's mucking pens, side-walking for sessions, or maintaining the grounds, volunteer work helps to ensure our space reflects an environment where everyone can feel welcome and cared for.

As a volunteer, you can expect to learn a variety of skills during your time at the ranch. From horse handling and safety to client interactions and professionalism, our hope is that the experiences you gain while here can be utilized throughout your life.

We require all volunteers within the program be fingerprinted. Check out our three main volunteer focus areas below to learn more:

  • As an Operations Volunteer at Wild Souls Ranch, you’ll help bring our mission to life both on and off the ranch. Volunteers support fundraising efforts, assist with special events, and help with client transportation. You may also represent the ranch in the community by participating in outreach events like farmers' markets, Rodeo Week, and parades. This is a great role for someone who enjoys engaging with people, building connections, and helping a nonprofit thrive.

Operations volunteers are cross-trained with the ranch volunteer program so as to ensure a full understanding of how the ranch operates.

  • Our Side Walker Volunteer positions are currently full, but please feel free to send an application in for future consideration.

Side Walker Volunteers at Wild Souls Ranch play a vital role in supporting riders from Redwood Coast Regional Center during equine-assisted sessions. Volunteers walk alongside the horse to provide stability and encouragement, while also assisting participants on and off the horse throughout the session. Because each rider’s needs and interests are unique, volunteers are expected to be flexible and ready to adapt- whether supporting a riding lesson, helping a participant explore the ranch, interact with animals like goats or ducks, or engage in activities such as gardening. A calm, patient, and adaptable approach is essential to meeting participants where they are and creating a positive, confidence-building experience.

Side walks are cross-trained with the ranch volunteer program so as to ensure a full understanding of how the ranch operates.

The Ranch Volunteer Program at Wild Souls Ranch involves helping with daily ranch operations such as mucking, weeding, and animal care as directed by staff. Volunteers may also assist with larger projects like fence building, property improvements, and other hands-on tasks that help maintain and grow the ranch. This role offers a great opportunity to work outdoors, learn practical skills, and be part of a supportive team.
